Top 3 Finalists for American Idol Season 11 (From left: Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips)

The astonishing last three finalists standing for American Idol Season 11 visit their hometown after their friend and co-finalist Hollie Cavanagh was sent home during the last elimination episode. In less than two weeks, the next American Idol for this year will be named. Millions and millions of people not just in the US but around the world are rooting for each of these names: Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, and Phillip Phillips. Last season, it was an easy YES for Scotty, but Jimmy Iovine said it’s tough to guess who’s gonna make it to the top this time since all three finalists have the talent and personality that an Idol should possess. He added that it’s up to America to fight for who they think deserves the title.

May 12, 2012, Jessica Sanchez visits her hometown, San Diego, California. The youngest finalist this season thrilled the crowd of people from a wide range of age and races by her performances in different parts of the town. Jessica had her Homecoming Parade from Otay Lakes Road to Clubhouse Drive which started at roughly 10:15 in the morning. At 11:30 in the morning, Jessica was received by an outstanding audience at Eastlake High School Football Stadium. She sang some of the songs which she brought into play during the last few episodes of the show including I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston, Steal Away by Etta James, Stuttering by Jasmin Sullivan. At around 2:00 in the afternoon, the deck of the U.S.S. Midway Museum at downtown’s Broadway Pier welcomed Jessica and her family.

Joshua also makes a big return to his hometown, Westlake, Louisiana on the same day. He had his Homecoming Parade down Sampson Street where a bunch of Joshers gathered around to cheer for their Idol. He also had a Pep rally and concert in Burton Coliseum, located at 7001 Gulf Highway in Lake Charles, only 7,900 passes to the event were made available.

Meanwhile, Phillip Phillips wakes up his sleeping town Leesburg, Georgia during his arrival on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 10 in the evening. He had his radio tour on Broad Avenue and paid a short visit to his dad’s pawnshop. At 2:30 in the afternoon on the following day, Phillips rocked down the Highway 32 from Starksville Avenue to the Lee County High School. He offered free concert for all of his hometown fans at the same High School.

Now, if you noticed I paid much more attention to Jessica’s homecoming. I don’t mean to be bias but I’m also not a journalist writing FYIs…I am a blogger writing for myself and for those who agree with my thoughts. Anyway, I don’t know who’s gonna win either. I just hope that this time, America would be wiser to vote for who’s best and by saying BEST, I mean Jessica Sanchez. Amen!

Jessica works hard for Top 4

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

The 16-year-old American Idol hopeful, Jessica Sanchez, is definitely working hard for a spot in the Top 4 for next week’s episode. The youngest AI contestant this season rocked the hallway with Tina Turner’s Proud Mary during the first set. The same song was performed by the unparalleled Beyonce Knowles during Grammy’s 2008 and in some of her money-maker tour shows.

Jessica stomped her feet to the beat of the drums and banged her head up and down like anyone else would do just to keep up the flavor of the song that was marked by the Great Tina. Sanchez ran the length of the stage while growling some parts of the melody which made it even more exciting to watch.

Joe Cocker’s You are so Beautiful was Jessica’s second song for the night. Sanchez tossed her vocal faculty effortlessly when she sang two songs which are completely on the conflicting sides of the music meter, one being energetic and vibrant and the other being poignant and composed.

Jessica is without doubt one of the best singers to ever grace the Idol stage. In  fact, her brilliant performances captured not just the common public viewers but also some of the greatest artists including Grammy Award winners Richard Marx and Colbie Caillat who both tweeted about how  Jessica made them proud.

American Idol is set to conclude on May 23.

Tomorrow you will know if Jessica is safe. Just keep on voting for her America!

American Idol squeezes down to Top 5

Monday, April 30, 2012

Last week’s Idol performances thrilled the world as the contestants were joined by two of the most promising 70’s rock band Queen. The six remaining finalists joined by Brian May and Roger Taylor performed Queen’s hits including Another One Bites the Dust, We are the Champions and We will Rock You. The two subsequently gave the Idol hopefuls ideas on how to approach the songs they picked from the Queen bag.

Elise Testone sings Whole Lotta Love after being eliminated
Each contestant sang one of Queen’s and one of their own selections. Jessica Sanchez was the first one to hit the stage with one of the most illustrious Queen rock ballads Bohemian Rhapsody.  Sanchez received notable comments from the Idol judges with Jennifer Lopez saying that she was expecting more of a rock moves but she understands that rock isn’t Jessica’s strong point while Randy Jackson thought that Freddie Mercury would have been proud of her performance. On the contrary, Idol mentor Jimmy Iovine said that Jessica singing Bohemian Rhapsody was a total mistake but added that she definitely caught the emotion of her second song, Dance with my Father by Luther Vandross, and gripped her audience from start to end.

Country singer/song-writer from Mississippi, Skylar Laine, pulled off Queen’s most dramatic song from 1991, The Show Must Go On. The song wasn’t one of Skylar’s she’ll-definitely-nail-it type of songs but she grabbed it like a rock goddess adding a little taste of country twang. Steven Tyler said that it was an over-the-top performance, Jennifer got goose bumps (which is like her trademark now), and Randy tagged it as “incredible” and one of skylar’s best shots in the entire season. During the second round, Skylar took Jason Aldean’s Tattoos on this Town. The judges said that it was another solid take.

Joshua Ledet kicked off another spectacular Mantasia (as he was tagged now) show with Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”. He had the audience on their feet during the entire performance. The judges gave him his eleventh and twelfth standing Os in the same episode. The twelfth standing O was for his equally poignant rendition of India Arie’s Ready for Love. The 20-year-old lad from Louisiana moves the crowd everytime he sings. Jennifer Lopez admitted that Joshua’s part of the show is her favorite part of the show this season.

Rock being one of her fortes, Elise Testone delivered Queen’s “I Want It All” like a piece of cake. These types of songs have drawn out great remarks from the judges and mentor Lavoine. Steven Tyler said that she got hold of her stride with the song and tagged as an over-the-top performance that he enjoyed. The same thing goes with Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez who both said that the song was perfect for her.

Phillip Phillips performed “Fat Bottomed Girls” which was also played during the group performance at the start of the show. The judges like the way this “lady-killer” (as nicknamed by Ryan Seacrest) delivers songs like it’s the first time they hear them. Phillips, being compared to Dave Matthews the entire season, finally took one of Dave Matthews’ band song The Stone. The judges have divided remarks for his second performance. Jennifer said that the song choice doesn’t add up to his mission of pulling himself up to the finale. Randy Jackson otherwise enjoyed it and said that he admired Phillip showing off his true colors with his second take.

Last but not the least, Hollie Cavanagh, performed “Save Me” from 1980. Hollie, all dressed up in red with a big pack of backup singers, had her biggest moments in the show last week and received great praises. Nevertheless, the judges think that she could have nailed the song if she poured more emotions into it and, as per Randy Jackson, she could have taken more chances with her vocals. During her backstage interview after the first performance, Hollie said that she really has to step up her game which she actually did during the second round singing Miley Cyrus’ The Climb. She sang the song during her auditions and thought that maybe it was time to take it to the actual Idol stage.

The night after their performance was one of those nerve-crunching episodes of their Idol life. Nobody has an idea whose name is written on the results card that Ryan Seacrest is holding. Three girls were sent to bottom three seats including Elise, Hollie and Skylar but Skylar was immediately held back to the safe couch leaving Hollie and Elise on the brink of being eliminated.

Drums were rolled and lights were dimmed when Idol host Seacrest announced Elise Testone as eliminated. Elise’s idol journey was reeled on the backdrop but she didn’t shed tears. Once again Elise proved America why she deserved to become one of the finalists when she sang Whole Lotta Love as her exit song. The 26-year-old once-an-Idol-hopeful is set to guest at The Ellen DeGeneres Show and got her fans excited when she revealed something about the possibility of working with Queen’s Brian May in an album.

Four more weeks and the Idol curtain will soon be closed. Now who’s your Idol? Tweet your favorite Idol finalist and your personal messages to them. FOLLOW US!

American Idol Season 11 announces Top 6

First entry for this blog and I’m strategizing to make this BIG, and by saying BIG, I mean Beguiling, Interesting and for lack of a better term Great, someday. My other blog concerns technological stuffs, mostly tutorials about networking devices and updates. If that just poked your attention, here’s the link http://epicguru.blogspot.com. Now, for this blog, I’m going to get into some of my most interesting thoughts about people, events, lifestyles, places, and things that I know a great deal of people crack about.

Now, let’s talk about the world’s number one TV show, American Idol. In its eleventh season, Nielsen’s statistics shows a sharp 17% drop in its ratings compared to previous year’s pilot episode. It was also noted to be the series’ lowest opening since its first season. This year must have been worrisome for Fox given that NBC’s newest talent competition, The Voice, topples the 11-year old Idol by nearly doubling the latter’s premiere ratings. Though competition is raging between these TV shows, Idol still promises a lot more exciting episodes from its auditions to its finale considering that The Voice runs on a more distinctive pattern. Randy Jackson even pointed out once that the latter pools its casts not just from any remote counties; these are people who have had record deals beforehand.  While AI searches for the total package, The Voice seeks for best vocal abilities that might deter the need for auto tuning.

American Idol Season 11’s thirtieth episode has put through six incredible talents to clash this Wednesday 8/7C. Joshua, Hollie, Phillip, Skylar, Jessica and Elise are the lucky remaining contestants who will battle for the five remaining slots for next week. It’s a tug of war between these young people and the number of their supporters around the US and all over the world skyrocket incessantly. The Idol judges have become very exacting about each contestant’s song choice, arrangement and overall performance week by week especially when Jessica was almost extracted from the show a week back. It was a night full of drama for Idol since Jessica has been very consistent with her performances and the judges has repeatedly conferred that she might be the next female Idol winner after Jordin Sparks on its sixth season.

Last week was the toughest for all remaining finalists since their fate lies solely to America’s votes after the judge’s only save was used up to Jessica’s favor. Before hitting the stage, nerves were painted all over their faces. Each got to sing two songs from now and then. The soulful powerhouse Sanchez said that she was already hopeless when she was announced eliminated since nobody’s really safe in this kind of competition. Everyone stood on their feet including Jane Lynch from Glee when judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, and Steven Tyler ran across the audience to cut Jessica short from singing since for them she doesn’t merit the judgment. It could have been a wakeup call for Jessica’s fans that put her through until this week. Jessica’s performances that were posted on youtube earned millions of views and praises. Followers of the show said that she’s the first AI finalist to top youtube views and the first female contestant to receive the judges’ save. Apparently, Jessica’s making a history for the show and hopefully for the world. Unfortunately, following Jessica’s save, it was the end of the road for Colton Dixon, a 20-year old lad from Tennessee. Colton, alongside Phillips and Sanchez, has never been n the bottom three and was anticipated by many to join Jessica in the finale. Although it was hard for him and his family, Colton said he’s so much lucky to reach as far as Top Seven for someone who never intended to audition, recalling that it was only her sister Schyler who auditioned this season and he, being in the audition room, was convinced only by the judges.
